The Welshman and Lady Grey

The handsome John Gate
Did love the Lady Grey
He wished with all his heart
To have her go his way

But her family did not wish
That the Welshman Master Gate
Claim her hand in marriage
For he was not a worthy mate

Poor John did cry at night
She filled his wicked dreams
And in the daylight hours
He worked for all that redeems

But John was in fact
Like the chivalrous knights of old
With honor in his heart
And faith that made him bold

So though the family thought
That he would never win
They miscounted his Caprian patience
And strength of will within

Though many years went by
And several hairs turned grey
The beautiful loving couple
Did see their wedding day
